HOW TO USE COLOR CHANGING KIT
- Prepare your water cups: gather three small cups and fill them separately with water, vinegar, and a dash of baking soda dissolved in water.
- Activate the middle watercolor dot of your chosen color using a clean, wet brush. The middle dot will be the neutral color so it is important to use clean water when dipping into it.
- Paint an area on your included swatch card or regular watercolor paper with the neutral color.
- While the paint is wet, dip the brush into the vinegar and brush it over the wet paint.
- With a clean brush, repeat the step with the baking soda water.
- Alternatively, sprinkle baking soda powder directly onto the wet paint. Any excess powders can be rubbed off when the painting is fully dried.
- Experiment from there! When working with a brush wet with a modifier, remember to dip that into the corresponding dot to the right or left of the neutral dot.
Additional Modifiers: These common household items have a range of pH values and all interact with the organic pigments differently!
- Lemon or Lime Juice
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
WARNING: Washing soda may cause minor skin irritation to particularly sensitive skin types: use a spoon or wear gloves to dispense the modifier if you are prone to skin irritation.
IMPORTANT:
Once a modifier gets onto the paint dot, there’s no going back and the rest of the dot will be forever modified. We recommend keeping several cups of clean distilled water going and replacing them often.
Tips for preventing modifier contamination on dot cards:
- If possible, use three different brushes and have one dedicated clean brush and assign the other two to the modifiers.
- Don’t be afraid to cut the cards and separate the dots!
- Replace the clean water often, just in case.
PLEASE NOTE: These paints are not lightfast so it is important to protect your work by keeping it away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
All paints are vegan, organic, and locally sourced, handmade in small batches in Boulder, Colorado.
